How do you IRON CHEF? by Sue Houser In a grand tradition of our talented Alfisti Cooks, I thought it might be time to challenge our culinary artists to a competition. I am proposing a contest of taste, skill and artistry–our own IRON CHEF battle. As you know from the Iron Chef television series, there are a set of rules, judging criteria/points schedule, and the most important part, the secret ingredient. This competition is open to all AROC St. Louis members and guests. The competition will be held on July 25, at Rich and Janet Hirsch’s Day at the Lake. If you’re interested in this challenge, here are the rules: Rules 1. You MUST use the secret ingredient. 2. Your dish must homemade. It can be finished and plated at Rich and Janet’s. All non-homemade/commercially prepared dishes are ineligible for competition. 3. You MUST supply your recipe to me, the recipe ma-ven, before your dish can be judged. 4. You must register with me to compete, so I can do the paperwork. This is when you give me your recipe. You do not have to pre-register, but if you wish to, an email is fine. I will take entries the day of the event. Judging rules and point schedule. 10 points Taste 5 points Presentation/plating 5 points Creativity/originality
I will select three judges, above reproach, known for their discriminating good taste and overall good-sport at-titude. A People’s Choice will also be awarded. The Secret Ingredient will be revealed by email to our club email list, or phone call if requested, on July 8,2009. Other stuff : All recipes will be used in my column, Alfisti Cooks!, and in any subsequent Alfisti Cooks! cookbooks. The Secret Ingredient email will include any clarifications, changes and/or amendments. If you have questions or comments, please contact me.
